The Agora Group organized and ran a successful conference on Wednesday 13 June
at The Graduate School, University of Nottingham. The international event was attended by over
thirty five students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, from 12 different nationalities and
this resulted in diverse and informed debate
The conference provided the opportunity for thirteen students to present papers
dealing with topics ranging from suicide bombing to the nature of identity and student participation.
Despite the variety of topics presented, the underlying theme was that of youth perspective and the role
that students can play in shaping politics on a global scale.
The event saw papers presented on The Question of Identity and Inclusion, Challenges to Democracy,
Perspectives on the Threats of Terrorism and Methods of Influencing Policy with a final session looking
at Practical Experiences from students who have been involved in research abroad and active in student organization.
The quality of the papers presented allowed for informed discussions and debate to be generated and provided for a
stimulating and interesting conference.
With the culmination of this conference, those people who presented papers will see their work published
in the Agora Group online journal ‘Youth and Democracy’ and we are working towards having a special journal edition created
by an established think tank and so there will be exposure in this way and we encourage members to continue to submit articles
for future publication and to continue to post on the forum.
Please check back soon as all the information from the day will be uploaded - including video and audio - and this
will allow you to further debate the issues discussed and provide additional exposure for those who presented.
The Agora Group would like to thank all those who participated during the conference and encourage you to continue
to post and debate the ideas that were discussed.
